Starburst Mirror

Starburst mirrors are not practical if you need them to make sure your tie is centered or to look at your dress. They are very small and are purely decorative. They are called starburst mirrors because the frames on the original models were star shaped. The frames were originally made of tin or wood finished with gold or silver leaf and they were supposed to give the appearance of a shining star.

Today only the name remains of the starburst mirrors, they are designed in many different shapes, colors and materials. You can find them shaped like suns, fruit vines, flowers, and many other interesting modern shapes. These mirrors are not designed for observation purposes, in fact some of them have extremely small mirrors and the larger mirrors are maybe twelve inches across. So don’t count on using one to check on your makeup.

They are used as wall ornaments and can be placed anywhere. They are useful in their own way; an example of this is to reflect light into a dark spot in your bedroom or living room or to fill a small empty space in a hallway. Hall ways may be the best location for them because being that they are accessible to people walking by they can be used for localized observation purposes . A hall way decorated with a combination of starburst mirrors interchanged with pictures or paintings looks nice and different.

Most of them retain characteristics the original models had; they are shaped like suns and stars with peaks moving outwards from the central mirror. There is certain logic to the name when you see a small mirror from which wooden rays finished in gold and silver leaf shoot outwards and it is hit by the sun. It will definitely shine like the sun itself.

If you have a covered patio decorated with plants, a vine design would look great on the central wall. Instead of rays coming out from the mirror these models have vines covered with leaves that appear to be growing outwards from the mirror. It will provide you with a nice contrast with the real plants, the outside setting, the patio chairs and tables. There is a model available for any and all purposes and locations you might have in your house.

Even though there are many beautiful models available, it is not a good idea for you to hang too many on your walls. Even if they are in different areas of the house, too much is never good. Two or three strategically hanged around the house is more than enough, just make sure that they are in harmony with the rest of the decoration in the room. You do not want them stand out like a sore thumb on your wall, they will look ugly even if they are beautiful. The decoration of a room must flow and not be interrupted to be appreciated and enjoyed by your visitors and especially by you.
